THE YAMAHA DIFFERENCE
These are just some of the key features and technical innovations that set a WaveRunner apart and which combine seamlessly to help create the famous Yamaha Difference that’s so familiar to loyal WaveRunner riders the world over. Check specifications for availability of features on individual models
Supreme performance. Under your control.
Yamaha’s performance engineering and racing heritage has long been the stuff of legend, yet this unique package of force and finesse would count for nothing without the sophisticated, ultra-efficient systems we’ve developed to give you command and control over all that power. It’s an awesome combination - one that makes the WaveRunner experience very special indeed.
A master class in hull construction
Every WaveRunner hull delivers an exhilarating, comfortable ride in all water conditions, with a winning combination of rail-like straight-line stability and tight, rock-steady cornering. FX models feature the new and revolutionary NanoXcel™ hull material; lightweight yet super-tough, it saves a massive 25kg and increases speed, agility and fuel economy.
Yamaha engines. The pinnacle of power.
WaveRunner engines feature Yamaha’s world-leading 4-stroke marine technology, so expect big savings on fuel, oil and maintenance. The world’s first-ever supercharged and intercooled 1812cc watercraft engine is an awesome feature of the 2008 FX SHO models.
YEMS®: Yamaha Engine Management System.
Fully integrated, computerised management system that controls all vital engine functions - ignition timing, fuel injection mapping, engine diagnostics and OTS (Off-Throttle Steering) - an ‘intelligent’ function that helps maintain steering response after releasing the throttle lever.
Hyper-Flow jet pump propulsion
A key factor behind the legendary WaveRunner reputation for exhilarating handling and performance, this well proven unit delivers outstanding ‘bite’ and acceleration, thanks to a high-flow intake, a Thrust Directional Enhancer and a progressive-pitch stainless steel impeller.
Quick-Shift Trim System (QSTS)
This great system allows tighter turns and more control of the machine by offering almost instant changes in attitude and trim while on-the-fly. The comfortable twist-grip offers smooth-action, click-by-click control of 5 trim positions within a range of 24º.
4-STEP ADJUSTABLE STEERING (4-TAS)
The intensively researched and tested hulls of Yamaha personal watercraft deliver a ride other manufacturers are still scratching their heads over. Our hulls combine rail-like straight-line stability, tight yet rock-steady curves, and an exhilarating, comfortable and confident ride over all kinds of water. Integrated spray guards help keep you dry.
Electronic Throttle system
In addition to instant response, Yamaha’s new electronic system delivers other attractive and practical engine control functions for owners of our top-of–the-range FX SHO models:
  • Cruise Assist. One-touch speed-setting control - more relaxed cruising and ski-towing without the need for constant throttle adjustment; simply return the throttle to its original position to cancel the setting.
  • No-Wake ModeTM. In harbours and other speed-controlled zones, select this mode and let the control system help you stay within the limit until you cancel it again.
  • Reverse Traction Control. A clever system that manages engine RPM to prevent over-revving in Reverse, making smooth manoeuvring easier
A passion for detail
This is where you can see, feel and touch the passion in every detail of technology and innovation we put aboard your WaveRunner, from first concept to final fit-out - some of the special, unique ingredients that work together to help create The Yamaha Difference - and which will turn every ride you take into a rewarding and exhilarating experience.
YSSS: Yamaha Sound Suppression System
This technically advanced system uses an ingenious array of resonators, a through-hull exhaust and special intake baffles to dramatically reduce noise - not just for our riders, but for others in the vicinity too.
Multi-function instrument panel
Both FX Cruiser models feature this stylish dash panel with its large speedo/tacho and readouts for fuel level, air and water temperature, compass heading, battery voltage and running hours. Automatic alerts for low fuel or oil pressure and overheating are other comforting features.
Easy-to-read instrumentation
All models feature digital multi-function metering with read-outs for speed, tachometer, fuel level, running hours and battery voltage, along with automatic alerts for low fuel or oil pressure and overheating. FX models feature a large analogue speedo/tachometer unit.
Remote security and Low RPM Mode™
A simple button-push on the remote control disables or re-enables the ignition, preventing accidental start-up or an unexpected joyride! A special ‘L’ mode (low RPM) can also be engaged by a second button, reducing the power available to the rider.
Rear View Mirrors
Simple of course, but vital to help you stay aware of what’s going on around you. These stylish convex mirrors give you a wide field of vision and help you to keep a relaxed and watchful eye on passengers and wakeboarders.
The best seat on the water
Intensive ergonomics research at Yamaha has resulted in a seat that offers a great feeling of comfort, security and riding pleasure, whether you’re flying along – or taking it easy. The special Cruiser seats are designed to ensure rider comfort over longer distances.
Just pack up and go
Generously sized water-resistant storage facilities, bow lockers and beverage holders, as well as useful space for personal items and accessories are featured on most models. A handy glove box is also to be found on most WaveRunners.
Welcome aboard!
Every WaveRunner has comfortable Hydro-Turf® mats and the handy re-boarding step (FX models) makes it really easy to get back out of the water when you’ve been wakeboarding, skiing or swimming. On VX models, the same easy boarding is provided by the large stern platform.
