The city provided a beautiful, vibrant and glamorous backdrop for the press event, serving up a varied mix of roads, scenery and traffic conditions. Heading out onto a route that took in some of the city’s most interesting sights, the journalists who attended rode together in small groups, pausing for breath at three scheduled stops. Here, they were introduced to the Yamaha brand and its latest high-wheel scooter in just the sort environment that the model’s target buyer might live – an environment that combines thrusting urban traffic with open-road runs. Needless to say, the new X-City was in its element.
The new Yamaha X-City

Class-leading comfort and functionality
Yamaha’s designers have gone to great lengths to ensure that the X-City offers class-leading comfort and functionality, and one of the first things that the rider will appreciate is the ease of access. The relatively low height of the footboards and new seat shape compared with similar models allows riders to place their feet on the ground in slow or stationary traffic with ease, making the X-City one of the most attractive and accessible solutions for urban riding and suburban commuting. Passenger comfort is first class, and the luxuriously padded stepped dual seat and grab bar – combined with the aluminium passenger footrests – make the X-City ideal for two.
Yamaha’s designers have paid special attention to the provision of useful storage space, and the X-City is equipped with a good-sized and specifically shaped underseat storage compartment that has been designed to accommodate a business bag or helmet. There is also a handy glove compartment, and a carry hook is also provided for carrying smaller bags.
Using a 16-inch wheel at the front, and a smaller 15-inch wheel at the back, the X-City provides excellent, stable handling and controlled, supple damping. And both of these qualities were really put to the test on the twisting, cobbled streets of old historic Naples. With a 249cc and the 125cc 4-stroke engine available, the X-City is a must for hassle-free, urban commuting.
